What are lessons like at Pond View Farm?

Pond View Farm specializes in English riding lessons for children of all ages and abilities. Many of the students began at a young age and have continued through high school and beyond. The lessons are year round, weather permitting, in the outdoor arena. Private lessons are also available for adults.
Lessons emphasize total horsemanship--learning from the ground up how to interact and communicate with your horse. This includes proper grooming (including bathing the horses in the summer), hoof care, tacking and tack care, stable management and the overall health and wellness of the horses. Students "learn by doing" and gain self confidence as they gain new skills both on and off the horses.
In the arena, students develop a solid foundation in the basics of English riding. This foundation builds from walking and trotting to eventually cantering and jumping. Once the student develops the needed skills to ride safely, the lessons alternate between the arena and the miles of serene trails adjoining the Farm. Each session concludes with a snack—apples for the horses and cookies for the students!
Private lessons are one hour and group lessons are approximately two hours. The Farm has great school horses and ponies. Students will be matched with the appropriate horse based on ability and skill level.
During the school year, there are programs after school and on Saturday and Sunday. During the summer, there are several programs throughout the week as well as on Saturday and Sunday. It is usually recommend that beginners start with a few private lessons and then join an appropriate skill-level group lesson. In addition, we are proud that our Farm has been part of the Arlington Kid's Camp Program since 2018.

Costs:

Group lessons are 2 hours in duration and $70 per lesson
Private lessons are 1 hour in duration and $110 per lesson
Semi-Private lessons are 1 hour in duration and $95 per student
Appropriate riding gear is required. The gear includes an equestrian helmet (ASTM/SEI certified), paddock boots (or hard soled shoes or boots with a heel). Most equipment is available for loan to beginning students. Breeches or tight fitting leggings are recommended as the seams in jeans can cause skin abrasions.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to drop off their child at the beginning of the lesson and pick up their child at the conclusion. This enables the student to interact more freely with the instructor and the other students.
Please note that charges apply unless a scheduled lesson is cancelled 24 hours in advance.
